Lone Pine Farm's Artists-in-Residence

Lone Pine Farm & Studio hosts artists, writers, designers, makers, choreographers, musicians, and other creatives from a range of disciplines to stay in residence for one to three weeks on our farm. Our accommodations consist of a single studio apartment — creative collaborators and partners may join if you let us know in advance. Lone Pine is particularly interested in hosting artists interested in ecology, sustainability, community development, and agriculture. In exchange for the use of our resources and time and space to create, we ask artists to participate in farm operations for 12-hours per week, and to share the results of their creative work with the local community.

Meet the 2017 Artists-in-Residence

What Lone Pine Farm & Studio can offer:

  • Accommodation. A live/work studio on the second-floor of our barn at Hidden Cove Farm furnished with a queen-sized bed, desk, and other basic amenities including wireless Internet. A limited kitchen, full-bath, and washer/dryer are on-site for your use. Full kitchen accessible in the main house.
  • A Creative Environment. Lone Pine Farm & Studio operates out of Hidden Cove Farm, a two-acre farm inhabited by chickens, one cat, four humans, and a plethora of organic vegetables and cut flowers. There is ample power and water everywhere on this site, as well as on-site yoga studio and other out-buildings for your use. Summer 2017, we anticipate acquiring stewardship of Lone Pine Farm at M&E, 14-acres of public land of varied terrain, approximately 2-miles from the Hidden Cove site.
  • Food. Eggs, fresh produce, and occasional family-style meals sourced direct from the farm.
  • Tools and Materials. We cannot vouch for what will be here and the condition, but you are welcome to use (with permission) whatever implements and piles of debris you find.
  •  Opportunities to Collaborate. We have a number of partnerships with individuals, businesses, and organizations on Bainbridge Island, which could lead to unique projects, exhibition opportunities, and other events.

Before applying, please consider that...

Lone Pine Farm & Studio is not for everyone. We are a working farm on an island in Puget Sound, which means that things get rustic when we are in full-production mode. Those sensitive to allergies—particularly pollen, bees, and animals—may want to carefully consider the ecology of the farm. There are animals already living on site, so pets are not permitted.

Lone Pine Farm & Studio asks:

  • Residents secure their own transportation to and from Bainbridge Island. Bainbridge is located one-hour from Sea-Tac Airport: 30-minutes by car/rail, and 30-mins by ferry. Once on the Island, there is public bus service as well as a Farm bicycle that you can use.
  • To fully engage with the cultural and ecological life of the farm, we ask that Residents contribute 12-work hours per week, under the direction of Farm Boss. Depending on your skills, there could be other ways to contribute to the Farm beyond basic tasks.
  • There will be some sort of community event, possibly an artist talk, farm-to-table dinner, open studio, or other event. We ask that Residents enthusiastically participate in these events, which will be planned in collaboration with you and Lone Pine.
